Vibe Reader now available for Windows 8

Loyal Microsoft users now have the chance to enjoy the engaging features of Vibe Reader, through its latest version developed for the Windows 8 operating system.

The latest version of this e-reading application was declared available for download last April 11 from the Windows Store (http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-US/app/vibe-reader/8b0c48d7-3064-4f71-8803-d5f0e8bf350c).

This means that Windows 8 OS devices such as desktops, laptops, and tablets can now download the Vibe Reader and start opening e-books, textbooks, and other digital reading materials that pass ePub 2.0 standards approved by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF).

Developed by Filipino software engineers from Vibe Technologies, Inc. – the technology arm of leading educational publisher Vibal Publishing House – the Vibe Reader Windows 8 version follows the Android version launched via Google Play in May 2012 and the iOS version available on the AppStore since October 2012.

Currently, Vibe Reader is installed in more than 8,000 devices across the Philippines – mostly for students who use the app to access their e-textbooks.

Offering innovations beyond the printed book, reading digital books with Vibe allows users to increase and decrease text size, jump from one chapter to the next using the slider bar, bookmark a favorite page for later reading with a single tap, and basically customize reading preferences for every individual.

This release version introduces fundamental e-reader features, including bookmark, change view (grid or list), sort by title or author, import files (DRM or non-DRM), download books from www.vibebookstore.com, add notes to every page or section, access chapters via the Table of Contents or the chapter finder, and change page settings including font style (serif/ sans serif/ default) and background color (white, sepia, or black).

Designed by book lovers for book lovers, Vibe Reader makes digital reading intuitive, efficient, responsive and highly customizable. Books downloaded from www.vibebookstore.com are also protected by Vibe DRM (Digital Rights Management) – a world-class, industrial-strength encryption system that ensures the protection of each e-book inside the user’s bookshelf.

With the Windows 8 version, Vibe is now available in multi-platforms for readers using different desktop or tablet devices. Readers can now sync downloaded books with their Vibe e-bookstore account to any device through quick and easy, user-friendly options. ###

Read without limits: Vibal Publishing leads digital shift with launch of Vibe Bookstore, Vibe Tablet

MANILA, May 7, 2012 – Filipino bibliophiles are in for a novel reading experience with the formal launch of the Vibe Bookstore, the first online bookstore engineered specifically for Filipinos, and the Vibe Tablet, a new educational tool to access digital books.

The Vibe Bookstore and Vibe Tablet were launched at the AV Theater of Edilberto P. Dagot Hall, PNU campus in Taft Avenue, Manila, as part of the “Teaching Powered by Technology: Digital Education Conference” presented by the Philippine Normal University (PNU) National Center for Teacher Education, and organized by Vibal Publishing House and Vibal Foundation.

Vibe Bookstore is the flagship product of Vibe Technologies, Inc., which was established last year by leading educational publisher Vibal Publishing House, to formalize its venture into digital products.

Initiated as a project of Vibal Foundation, the corporate philanthropy of Vibal Publishing House, Vibe Bookstore aligns itself with the core mission of the National Book Development Board’s “Booklatan sa Bayan” program, to enrich Filipino culture by providing the public easier access to reading material.

With a few taps on their mobile device, Vibe Bookstore will allow Filipino readers to purchase a wide variety of digital publications including books, children’s books, magazines, text books and comic books. In addition, Vibe will utilize cloud-computing technology to make available the widest number of newly published, out of print, or public domain book titles. Vibe seeks to be the largest online repository of titles available for purchase on the internet, with a current roster of 1,000 titles and counting.

The Vibe Bookstore is tailored to the needs of Philippine readers, allowing them to make transactions using Globe Gcash, SMART Money and other widely-used local services.

Vibe also allows magazine and newspaper publishers to offer reading options to budget-minded consumers by offering limited-time licenses, which allow readers to read print material that automatically lapses within a 7-day, 14-day or one-year period. Magazine and newspaper publishers may also offer subscriptions directly within Vibe.   A video showcasing the features of the Vibe Bookstore and Vibe Tablet was also premiered during the event.  (To watch the videos, click here.)

During the Digital Education Conference, a public preview was also held for the Vibe Tablet, another technology product by Vibe. Available in two models, the 10” and 8”, the Vibe Tablet is designed as an educational tool that can read e-books, supplement classroom learning, as well as offer the convenience of a mobile computing gadget.

The online bookstore was first revealed in a soft launch for bloggers in November 10, 2011 at the Filipinas Heritage Library in Makati. Vibe Bookstore can be accessed at the website: www.vibebookstore.com.

The “Teaching Powered by Technology” conference was organized by Vibal Publishing House, Vibal Foundation, and PNU, with support from Acer, Apple, Microsoft Philippines, and McGraw Hill. ###
